Jack M. Kleinfeld, P.E., President

Mr. Kleinfeld is the founder of Kleinfeld Technical Services, Inc., emphasizing IR thermography, finite element analysis, especially for heat transfer analysis, and process engineering as tools to help clients improve their operations, profitability and quality.  KTS builds on his unique ability to combine the benefits of these disciplines for the benefit of clients.

Mr. Kleinfeld was previously employed in a senior technical position on the corporate technical staff of the Champion International Corporation, previously the St. Regis Paper Company.  He is a licensed chemical engineer with over 44 years of varied experience in process analysis, steam and power systems, process simulation, process troubleshooting and improvement, finite element analysis, thermography, computer applications, pulp and paper technology, database application and design, and image analysis and use.  He has a proven track record of innovation, creativity, analytical ability, consulting, and insight.

Building on his strong and classical engineering background, he has been successful in expanding the scope of technology applications in many of his areas of expertise.  He has identified process design and improvement alternatives that have values in the millions of dollars.  He has successfully been an internal consultant at Champion for many years, recognized as someone who can address a wide variety of problems, bringing new insights and providing solutions.  His project activities have encompassed studies, pilot trials, mill trials, and capital projects, and he has acted as a team leader, team member and a resource to project teams.

Mr. Kleinfeld holds both a Master of (Chemical) Engineering and a Bachelor of (Chemical) Engineering (Magna Cum Laude) from CUNY/CCNY.  He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York and a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the International Society for Optical Engineering, the American Society for Non-destructive Testing, and the National Society of Professional Engineers, and a past member of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry.  He has been a member of the Program Committee for Thermosense and a Past Member and Chair of the Process Simulation and Control Project Advisory Committee at IPC/IPST.  He is President of the Bronx Chapter of the NYSSPE and a Director of the Tappan Zee Section of AIChE.  He has been granted U.S. Patents for "Method for Opening Discharge Outlets", "Method and Apparatus for Opening Discharge Outlets", " Recovery boiler smelt spout",  and "Recovery of Paper Fiber From Material Contaminated with Grease, Wax, and/or Similar Material" (with D. R. Raymond).  Presented papers include: "Finite element analysis as a tool for thermography" and "Examination of a carton sealing line using a thermographic scanner", both at Thermosense XXI, International Society for Optical Engineering, and "Waste Steam Recovery", Conference on Industrial Energy Conservation Technology, Texas Industrial Commission.
Mr. Kleinfeld also formed The Spout Rod Company, Inc. to pursue development and commercialization of patents granted while he was with Applied Technologies at Champion International Corporation.
